Below is a quick update on the Porter Ranch litigation regarding the Aliso Canyon gas well blowout.

Status of Individual Cases

A new judge, the Honorable Carolyn Kuhl, was assigned to the individual cases. She held a status conference on Monday, February 25, 2019, during which we introduced the cases to the Court and answered questions.

Attendees are welcome at the next hearing which is set for Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:45 p.m. at Department 12 of the Spring Street Courthouse located at 312 North Spring Street in Los Angeles. Prior to that hearing, the attorneys are putting together a report for the Court regarding completing the exchange of evidence in the individual cases.

The Court Approved Government Entities Settlement

The Court approved a settlement in the case between Southern California Gas Company and the State, City, and County government entities. This settlement covers the creation of a mitigation fund for the release of methane, attorney fees to public agencies, and a DPH health study.

Many people have asked us whether this government entities settlement will affect the recovery in other Porter Ranch cases on behalf of individuals. It will not, as the government entities case was a completely separate case.  No individual person will receive any monetary compensation from this government entities settlement, and it will not affect the continuation of the individual Porter Ranch cases.
